What's Happening To Me?

Nothing!!

Not really. I've been busy minding other people's businesses. In fact, I got a lot of things to blog but I just can't concentrate due to pressing issues that I need to deal with on the RM50 Millions Project that I am handling now. It's just the beginning but I and my team must get the good start! Challenges and limitations? These two things will be part of my quest to a very successful work done!!!

On a lighter part, I had conversation with my GM on "general" matters...

GM : You play golf?
Me : Err..not really. But I have a golf set in my store room. It has been 8 years since my last game at Bukit Tinggi.
GM : Ooooh!
Me : My target to get back at least at the driving range lah...
GM : Better start now....

Another one....

GM : Joseph...when are you going to get one? (Pointing to his Merc E200)
Me : In my dream, Sir...
GM : !!!!!
Me : Put it this way...
Me : You increase my salary 5 to 6 folds then I will decide to buy one if not better than yours. Hehehe
GM : Muahahaha....see how lar..
GM : You better get back to work...

How Am I Doing : On My Health

Last Saturday, I collected my nearly annual Full Blood Screening Test (FBST) result. Actually, it was my first FBST that I had ever carried out. Previously, I only took the General Blood Screening Test. The one and only reason why I decided to take the FBST because I’m already above 40 year old and just started my life!! (What am I doing for the last 39 years?? Uuuh!!). Before getting the FBST result, I was expecting several “area of concerns” with regards to general health which I had and still have problems with. My family doctor explained every test done on me. Some with long explanations and some are shorts. My dear gentle readers, allow me to share with you the “area of concerns” here....

Doctor : At your age, in general, you are consider in good health.
Me : .... (I do not know what he meant by that…)
Me : Okaayyy....
Doctor : However....
Me : !!!!!!

Serious & worrying stuff below!!!

Problem No. 1

Doctor : Your glucose level is 5.8 mmol/l (range 3.9 – 5.6). You need to take care of your sugar level intake.
Me : errr…I usually ordered “kurang manis” (less sugar) beverage and occasionally drink Coke. I like to eat fruits.
Doctor : Durian and mango contain high level of sugar. Try to reduce intake of these fruits.
Me : …. (just like he knows what I like to eat...)
Me : Alamak….my favorites fruits!!! Okay..will try to reduce...(sigh!!)
Doctor : Try to control your sugar intake and we’ll check your level again in a month's time.
Me : Ok.

Problem No. 2

Doctor : Your total cholesterol is 6.3!!! (range less than 5.2). For your size, it's a big figure. (I'm 5'10" and weight 74kg)
Me : (sweating.....)
FYI, this is my highest record of Total Cholesterol ever. The lowest recorded was 5.5 done in 2005 but still high.
Doctor : You need to eat more low cholesterol food and do more regular exercises to reduce the level. But my recommendation to you is to prescribe 20mg10mg Covastin daily for three months to solve your problem. By then, we'll check your level again.
Me : But any side effect?
Doctor : Not to worry. The prescription has no side effect and will definitely reduce your cholesterol level.
Me : Ok. Will try the pills.
Me : But, can I use back the same pills that my last family doctor proposed. It's the same actually.
Doctor : Sure you can. But, please return to have a check again.
Me : Ok. Sure.

You know, my other ex family doctor suggested the same but I refused because fear of side effect. I took the pills but kept them in the drawer. Instead, I resorted to diet control and to certain extend, successful managed to lower the level by 0.5. At home, my wife cooks using Grape-seeds & Olive Oil only. But outside especially when I’m at work, is totally another story where we always indulge in devilish delicious food and lots of seafood. Life is too short and so, who to blame? Hmmmm….. I’m sure going to miss most of them (the food).

But then again, I have other concerns that the doctor did not highlight to me….

First, my CA 19.9 level….at the moment it is still at the safe level which is 24.1 u/ml but I’m not far out from 37. Potential problem : Colon Cancer

Second, the Homocysteine level which is at 12.5 umol/l (range 5 – 15). Potential problem : Heart attack and stroke. (Please see second pic)

Third, my hs-C Reactive Protein which is 5.7 mg/l higher by 1.0 mg/l. (Please see second pic) Remember “An Encounter With A Unique CMD” in my previous posting. The CMD mentioned to me about “burning” liver. Now, I understand what he meant. It’s this protein that the liver produces that correlates with inflammation in the body and the best predictor of ……. again heart attack!! Alamak!!! I still cough (it’s still normally dry) but I realized that I now have cough less. But people says coughing is good especially when you get a heart attack!!! I will continue to cough then!!! Muahaha….(Sigh!!! again...).

You see, let me tell you a little bit of my family health history. Both my parents died due to cancer and both of them were heavy smokers. Mum was 43 year and dad was 72 year old. My mum died when I was in my 2nd year in University. My dad died 10 years after that. I got a friend (schoolmate) who died of heart attack in his early thirties who was also a heavy smokers and good eater. He leaves a wife with a kid.

You see, I used to be very athletic. I love sports very much. I used to run 10km with little sweat daily during my school days and represent my school in long distance run. I used to play serious squash in my University and represent my University and State. I was a very fit person. But, that was many-many years ago. The problem now is, my belly looks bigger than my chest. I want to start exercising again. Yes, let this be my resolution for my mid-life crisis, to start exercising at home. Sweating profusely at yard will not count. Hahaha……

You see, just like my other fellow blogger here ;
I want to become young again.
I want to see my daughter grows until I’m not able to control her.
I want to get and give my love to my family.
I want to become old gracefully but yet still healthy.
I want to live forever.

I’m not in the panic mode and I will still take whatever (food) serve to me but now with reduce intake as advised by my new family doctor. I'm under control of myself.

No matter what the challenges ahead, I want to enjoy my life to the fullest. God willing.

If you are 40 and above and started to enjoy life better than ever, please go and have a FBST. It's only MYR 280. It's worth to know "where" you are.

This month is the fasting month for my muslim friends. A very good time to control my diet as well. Not forgetting also, to all my muslim friends, Selamat Berpuasa.

I'm A (Very) Dedicated Employee

I got stomach aches today and my visits to toilet is nothing less than 5 times and counting. This means, I got to drink lots of water and also isotonic drinks!!! (Proven effective to me). Just to tell you one story here, as an employee who is on the J.O.B. (Just Obey Boss) and working for his boss for survival, I have to answer calls from my big boss(es) regardless where I am and what I am doing. Well, most of us do that and some don't. Nevertheless, while in one of my visit to my favourite dung toilet room answering nature's call, I got a call from my boss. It goes something like this....

Boss's Secretary : Hello Joseph, boss wants to speak to you.
Me : Hello, err...Ok.
Boss : HELLO!!
Me : Hello
Boss : HELLO!! HELLO!!
Me : Hello, sir.
Boss : I want you to instruct the HSE to start preparing their HSE Programme for the project.
Me : Mmmmh...(meaning a "Yes" in our culture. You can imagine, what others think if I say "Yes, Yes, Yes," etc in the toilet. But I use "Mmmmh" for other means as well especially when you are answering nature's call, sort of killing two bird with one stone).
Boss : I want you to prepare the Organization Chart also, so that we can discuss in tomorrow's meeting.
Me : Mmmmh
Boss : HELLO!!
Me : I'm listening, sir
Boss : Got it?
Me : Mmmmh!!
Boss : You know all these are part of the milestone payments and we need to get them completed ASAP.
Me : Mmmmhhh!!!
Boss : Okay, I'm currently evaluating the Cabin Offices and you please get these things organize for tomorrow's meeting.
Me : MMMMMMMHHH!!!

We finished our converstion and I finished my "business" there. It's multi-tasking in a way. Ahemm, you know, I'm not disgusting but I'm just a (very) dedicated or stupid employee.

Diddy FC Bowling Tournament - Part 1

Just last weekend I spent my time attending Diddy FC Bowling Tournament. Lots of people, sponsors, goodies, the screaming, etc. It was one of those things that I missed for so many years. Other than knowing Bad personally, the rest of them, mampus I don't know lah. Luckily for me, out of nowhere my friend Sue, came out and say "Hi" to me. Ah...at least I now have another one I know there.

Me : Hi Sue...long time no see
Sue : Hi...hahahaha, yalah..long time no see
Me : Are you playing?
Sue : No lah
Me : Same here...
Me : How's your David Cook....you fanatic ah?
Sue : No lah..not fanatic but "obsessive"
Me : Ooooh....your facebook is all about David Cook
Sue : Hehehe...Obessive...not fanatic
Me : Come, let's have a drink. I belanja u.
Sue : Ok...
Me : Any drink?
Sue : Milo please...

So I went to the counter and ordered the drink..... and then I checked my wallet. All RM50 notes. With unfriendly look of the cashier, I with my kulit muka yang tebal tak tau malu rushed back to Sue for help.

Me : Err...Sue, I got no change lah. I don't want them to curse me early in the morning for not having small notes. You got RM10 or not?
Sue : Hehehe....got......nah!!
Me : tq..tq....malu lah...

I owe you Sue.
Hehehe...

I took video on the event and this is my version of "what I see is what you get"...enjoy

Babies, Beijing Olympic & 080808

What do Hailey Jo Hauer and Xander Jace Riniker have in command?

Still can't figure it out?

They both actually have created history by being born at 8:08 a.m. on the 8th of August 2008, and weigh 8 lbs, 8 oz (3.8kg). How about that!!!

Hailey Jo Hauer is born to Lindsay Hauer via cesarean section that was scheduled for 8 a.m. Friday morning at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. According to doctors that is a "once in a million" case as this date will come only once in a hundred years.

Xander Jace Riniker was born at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is the eighth grandchild for his mother's parents.

In other parts of the world, as we all know, Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony in China kicked off on 8th of August in 2008 at 8.08 p.m. and 8 seconds. The GMT is even +8 for China. So what happen to me during this time? Errm, I was still in the office checking my emails!!

Read more at Associated Press on the babies, and EVERYWHERE on the Beijing Olympic.

Photography : Lost & Found

On last Sunday, I was window-shopping at Ikano Power Center at Mutiara Damansara and I stumbled upon A Photography Workshop organized by the Nikon, Nikonian Academy & Cocorich. I was there when Andrew Boey, Mohd Haider and another bloke gave me some useful tips on how to take better digital photography. Luckily for me, the terms and the photography jargons they said are still relevant to me. I’m glad that I still can understand and appreciate every single word they have said. I enjoyed the talks and the photography exhibition featuring Malaysia’s top photographers very much. Yes, it has been long since I haven’t taken any serious photography. I think it was almost 11 years ago. The last one was the Underwater Photography at Sipadan Island.

Back to history, I was hooked to photography when I was in my secondary school. My first borrowed camera was a Yashica Electro 35. This was also the camera I used to take the State’s Best Photography organized by the Education Ministry that won me RM200. It was a big sum for a skinny secondary student at that time. I’m still wondering why the judges did not notice the flaw in my entry whereby a bunch of children (multiracial) reading/sharing a “book” together. I thought my photography's concept was good but I wondered why I placed a magazine instead of Children’s book and still won? Lucky I guess. I’ve also participated in several contests but managed to get only consolation prizes, but it’s still felt great to me. In my school days, I joined the photography club when I was in Form 4. My school at that time was the best school that published Annual School Magazine due to the quality photographs taken by students and our great advisor who was also working as a journalist. I became the “fulltime” School Photographer a year later (until Form 6) and using my school’s Nikon FM2 that required me to take daily photograph i.e. Club Activities, Sports, Assemblies, Mini Parliament Sessions, etc. Kind of a like a photo-journalist for the school. I was lucky then because the school allowed me to use the School’s Photography Dark Room whereby all films processing and photograph printings are carried out using dark room tools & equipments. It was only Black & White prints but I was excited and addicted to photography!! I worked part time as well for a local studio as a photographer and assistant videographer. As that time, I earned RM30 to RM50 a day on call basis.

I bought my first camera, a Yashica FX3 Super 2000 complete with a TTL Flash, Standard 50mm lens and 70mm to 200mm zoom lens using my study loans (Muahahaha) when I was in the university and also the money I saved from my part-times. Again, I was requested by the one of university club to take some of their activities. Not as excited as before, nevertheless, I enjoyed it very much. I got several requests that I never turn-down to photograph beautiful ladies in the campus free of charge. Don’t get me wrong, nothing unusual or indecent and it’s all outdoor photography with beautiful ladies and sceneries around the campus. Yes, I appreciate beauties at all cost!!

After graduation, I still continue to take photograph and work part time for the studio I worked before. I then took Underwater Photography Cetification when I got my Advanced Open Water diving certificate. Eventually, I bought an underwater Sea & Sea Motormarine II 35mm Camera completes with all the lens kits and with Strobe. Not so user friendly, but very good for underwater wide angle photography especially for marine pelagic. I stop serious photography from 1998. Now it’s 2008 and it’s has been 11 years already? Hmmm…. But then again, that doesn't stop me from buying my first ever prosumer Digital Camera, a Sony DSC V1 which I considered as a “Lazy” guy camera. It’s a good camera for a family man.

For your information, both my old Yashica FX3 Super 2000 and Sea & Sea Motormarine II are still with me and in good working condition. I think I should find a buyer or two to buy these antics!!

Now, I think I want my long lost hobby back!! Thank you very much Nikonian for triggering the passion of photography in me again. I think I need a good DSLR camera. I’m thinking of buying a Sony, Canon or Nikon in the near future. If I can’t get my camera this year, perhaps it can be one of my resolutions next year. I will and have to start saving this month, God willing.

An Encounter With A Unique CMD - Part 1

Just want to share with you my encounter with a CMD recently. Btw, what is CMD? Errm, it's actually stands for Chinese Medicine Doctor. My late old man used to be a CMD as well. But I didn't inherit his skills and mastery because I think I failed my Chinese Language. (Shhhhh!!! We keep this as a secret). Instead, I ventured into Engineering and that's why what I am today. Back to the encounter I had.... Why I went to see this CMD? The main reason is to see whether he can cure my "chronic" coughing or not. I cough once in a while, no blood but just cough and it's normally dry. The western educated doctors told me that I don't have any problems with my body. It's just the air and nothing to worry. Ok well, my wife is worry. Yes, she is also consulting the same CMD and recovering very well on her illness (not serious but chronic like mine), when the other doctors failed to do. But this CMD is not like the other CMDs or in this case not like my late old man. The moment I entered his room together with my wife, he immediately asked me to sit and started to ask questions. He started conversing in Chinese Dialect (Hakka) and then turned to English after a few lines. Yup, he speaks good English!!! Here's the conversation I had with him.

CMD : What's your name?
Me : Cheung Yin Fang
CMD : How old are you now?
Me : Err......(long pause)
CMD : Aiyoo.....why? you forgot your age ah?
Me : Hehe...I never memorized. Errr 1967, is about 41 by now.
CMD : ...... (he jotted down 40 instead)

Then, the interesting part...He stared at my chest and then look at my stomach. Basically, "See no touch" thing.

CMD : Did you drink enough?
Me : I think I drank enough....err...average 8 glass a day. Sometimes more...
CMD : Did you drink enough herbal tea? (Non-heaty beverage)
Me : err...not enough I think
CMD : Did you take enough veggie?
Me : I think I took enough veggie
CMD : You don't have enough fibre in your body.
Me : ?????
CMD : You have to drink more...
CMD : You have to increase you fibre intake...
CMD : Do not eat too much heaty food...
CMD : Your LIVER is burning (literary)....
Me : ???!!!!????
Me : Heaty food like...
CMD : Those non-steam food lah...(low water contain food)
Me : Ooohhh...

My wife then left me alone with him.
He started to write down the prescriptions in Chinese characters that I totally don't understand. (You guys already know my talent in Chinese Language). You see, he didn't even touch me.

Me : Do I need to drink more? How much do you think is enough?
CMD : Different people, different intake. You have to "communicate" with your body?
CMD : Give you one example, if I stay too long in an air-conditional room, is my water intake will be the same as yours?
Me : Definitely not...
CMD : Then, you already have the answer there.... (My work required me to be literary burning on the sun almost all day!!!!. But I did not tell him my nature of work. May be he read my blog....nay...impossible).
Me : So, I have problem with my "burning" liver?
CMD : Yes....
Me : Any serious damage?
CMD : No damage so far...otherwise you won't be here.
Me : ...... (I think I know what he meant)
Me : How about my lung?
CMD : Your lung is in perfect condition.
Me : (Thank God!!, I don't smoke btw)
Me : How about the "wind" in my stomach...
CMD : That's a different story. We tackle this one first.
Me : !!!!! (Shit!!!)
Me : .....Okaaayy
CMD : I'm done here. (with two A4 pages of prescriptions for me)
Me : Thank you, sir.
CMD : Welcome.

It cost me about RM130 for the prescriptions (basically packs of Chinese Herbal Medicines). Consultation fee is RM5 only. He doesn't ask for any charges. It's up to you, anyway. It's just a token, in this case a RM5 "Ang Pow" for his small 10'x 10' rented room in the Chinese Medicine Shop. He's not the owner of the shop. It's like a social service to the people that required alternative medical assistance. Btw, he's already 73 and look very healthy and strong. He walks faster than any other "Old" men on the street. If you did not prescripe to his medicine then you be in for trouble. He "KNOWS" what you did and did not. In the case of my mother-in-law who is also seeking for the cure on her breathing problem, he told her not to breed chickens anymore and the fact that she never told him anything. A lucky "Guess" or "Amazing"? For me, it's simply amazing. I must trust this guy. Oohh...right after the consultation, I took a heaty meal just outside the shop and I hope he will not caught me!!(Arrggggg!!!)

I have started the medicine and it doesn't taste bitter that I had expected. No side effect so far. I have finished my 1st set yesterday and two three more sets to go for an interval of 5 days for each set.

Good luck to me and I will share more on my next encounter.

Top 10 Tips To Getting More Mileage To Your Car

Your own a car? (or the Bank) Doesn't want to use the public transport and trying to figure out how to add more mileage to your car. I found most of the tips here from off-line NST. Here's the Top 10 tips achiving that.

1. Slow down
As speed increases, fuel economy decreases exponentially, so adhere to the speed limit. you'll save a lot of fuel and your journey won't take much longer. Maintaining a constant speed over long distances often saves fuels.

2. Accelerate With Care
If you accelerate to speed, then have to brake right away, that's wasted fuel. By anticipating the traffic and applying the slow and steady acceleration and braking, fuel economy may increase by as much as 20%.

3. Avoid Being Idle For Long
If you expect to stop for more than one minute, shut off the car. Restarting the car uses less fuel than letting it idle for this time.

4. Consider Turning Off The Air-Conditioning
Opening the windows and enjoying the breeze. It may be warmer, but at lower speeds, you'll save fuel. However, windows open especially at highway speeds, increases drag and results in decreased fuel economy of up to 10%. Opening window and turning off the air-conditioning on a rainy day? That's a big NO-NO.

5. Check Your Tyre Pressure
Under-inflated tyres increase fuel consumption. Be sure to check them when they are cool, since driving the car warms up the tyres along with air inside them, which increases pressure and gives a false reading.

6. Clean Out Your Car
Do the house-keeping. The more weight you car has to lug around, the more fuel it burns.

7. Buy Fuel During The Coolest Time Of The Day
Early morning or late evening is the best. Avoid filling the fuel tank to the top. Overfilling results in sloshing over and out of the tank. If fuel nozzle is autumatic, never fill the fuel tank past the first "click".

8. Beware Of The New Wheels
New wheels and tyres may look nice, and they can certainly improve handling. But if they are wider than standards tyres, chances are they'll create more rolling resistance and decrease fuel economy. If you upgrade your wheels and tyres, keep the old ones. For long road trips, standard wheels give smoother ride and better economy.

9. Travel Shortest And Straight
Remember that corners, curves and changing lanes requires extra fuel. The shortest distance between two points is always straight.

10. Regular Services & Maintenance
Send your vehicle for servicing regularly as proper maintenance avoids poor fuel economy related to dirty air filters, old spark plugs or low fluid levels.

Bonus tips

11. Install Fuel Saving Device
There are numerous type of fuel saving devices available in the market. Make sure you make a proper research before installing one. Most of these devices claim to give 20 to 30% increase in fuel efficiency.

12. Install NGV System
Joint the bandwagon. This is proven alternative fuel. Saving is 75% over compared to existing fuel price.

13. Other Alternatives
Interesting website I found here on alternative energies. I wonder when these alternatives will be available and affordable to our shore.

Additional

14. Turn Off The "Overdrive"
If you happen to drive an automatic transmission vehicle, just trust me on this one, turn off the "Overdrive" when you are on the traffic jam.

Mega Structure Loadout Video - The Unofficial Secrets & Guides

Wow….it has been two weeks since my last blog entries. Well, I was terribly busy with my J.O.B. (Just Obey Boss) and there’s nothing I can REALLY do because it’s my only Golden Goose that I can rely on at the moment. Work aside, I was asked by my friends about the video that I posted on the Mega-Structure Load Out. To be frank with you all gentle readers, I took the video all by myself by standing and walking around in blistering hot sunny weather at the place I work, just to get the best possible angles and positions. As a part-time amateur and may be not so qualified “videographer”, it was really a delight to be able to post the “Product” over the internet for others who did not witness the event and get positive responses at the same time. To share you how I did it, the simplify “facts and figures” below tell you the way.

Video Capturing - Video Camera : Sony HDR SR7 ; Video Taking Duration : 2 hours (From 12:10 Hours to 13:46 Hours) ; Format : DVD Quality 720 x 576, mpg format, 3000kps bitrates, 25 fps ; Total Clips : 89 clips for cumulative of 11 minutes video ; Captured Capacity : 804MB

Video Editing - Video Editing Software : Windows Movie Maker v6 (WMM6) ; Output Format : HD720p 1280 x 720, mpg format, 6000kps bitrates, 25fps ; Total Clips : 66 clips for cumulative of 5 minutes video, balance of 23 scenes deleted ; Output Capacity : 213MB ; Video Watermark : Watermark Master v2.0.7 ; Logo Creation : MS Excel and Paint.Net ; Background Music : “Space Road” by Casiopea from the album “Eyes of the Mind” ; Hardware : Dell XPS M1530, T9300, 3GB Memory, 250 HD, GT8600 Video Card, Vista Ultimate

Youtube - Video Compression Tools : Windows Movie Maker v.6 (WMM6) ; Output Format : QVGA 320 x 240, mpg format, 1512kps bitrates, 25fps ; Output Capacity : 53.5MB ; Hardware : Dell XPS M1530, T9300, 3GB Memory, 250 HD, GT8600 Video Card, Vista Ultimate

To watch the video again, please click this link.

There you go. I think most of you are surprised to see that I’m using WMM6 for video editing, MS Excel & Paint.Net for Logo creation? MS Excel for Logo creation especially? Crazy but not impossible. You need to play around with the available features in the software and you’ll be surprised to find out what you can do to get the desire result. Btw, I faced a huge problem with WMM6 limitation in handling multiple clips. It can’t compile more than 10 clips at a time. Meaning to say, I need to compile several smaller clips into one of bigger clip. At the end of the day, the total number is only 9 big clips instead of 66 smaller clips to ensure WMM6 working properly and it doesn’t hang! You don’t have to believe what I mentioned here because I’m a man. You just have to try yourself to believe it. Next assignment is the other Mega-Structure Loadout Video Clip. This time will be the MDA’s Topside Loadout, with more that 260++ clips altogether with 2.5GB video captured capacity. Unfortunately, I got a lot of things coming to me at the moment and wondering when I can complete the whole thing. Please give me some time on this one. One thing for sure, it's going to be headache….headache….headache….and headache for me.

In case my gentle reader has something to share, you know where you can drop a comment.

Dubai Rotating Tower a.k.a Dynamic Tower

When I was driving to work today, I heard the radio news about Dubai Rotating Tower. I was like, "well, another rotating tower...." and it further stated that each floor rotates independently at different speeds. What?!! It's like out of the world thing for me. When I reached my office, I googled and I found 40,300 sites about Dubai Rotating Tower. When I first saw the picture, it is indeed an architectural marvelous. Here's what I got from the Official Site.

The Dynamic Tower in Dubai is the first Building in Motion to be constructed in the world, and it will herald a new era of architecture and become a symbol of Dubai, the city of the future.

The developer is Rotating Tower Dubai Development Limited of Dynamic Group.

Created by revolutionary architect Dr. David Fisher, the mixed use Dynamic Tower offers infinite design possibilities, as each floor rotates independently at different speeds, resulting in a unique and ever evolving structure that introduces a fourth dimension to architecture, Time.
The Dynamic Tower in Dubai will have 80 floors, and will be 420 meters (1,380 feet) tall, Apartments will range in size from 124 square meters (1,330 square feet), to Villas of 1,200 square meters (12,900 square feet) complete with a parking space inside the apartment. the first 20 floors will be an offices, floors 21 to 35 will be a luxury hotel, floor 36 through 70 will be residential apartments, and the top 10 floors will be luxury villas located in a prime location in Dubai, it is destined to become the most prestigious building in the city.

The far right picture; look like a Lego, right?

The Dynamic Tower in Dubai will be the first skyscraper to be entirely constructed in a factory from prefabricated parts, it will require only 600 people in the assembly facility and 80 technicians on the construction site instead of 2,000 workers on a similar size traditional construction site, Construction is scheduled to be completed by 2010.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum ruler of Dubai and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, is considered by many to be a true visionary of the future, Dr. Fisher's dreams for the Dynamic Tower in Dubai were inspired by His Highness who said “Do not wait for the future to come to you…face the future.”

Let's face the future together and you know what? A few more similar towers coming up. I think feng shui enthusiasts staying in this kind of building will have problem determining their best "directions" for them, right? Perhaps another topic to discuss about it.

Btw, in case you are drooling and interested in getting one of the unit? Click here to get at least the brochure.

Wondering how the tower(s) rotate? Click here and also video from AP news agency below.

Enjoy and keep drooling....

Tan Hong Ming In Love

There's something about this ad; Petronas Merdeka 2007 titled "Tan Hong Ming In Love" from Leo Burnett/Arc Worldwide Malaysia, directed by its creative director and film maker Yasmin Ahmad. So far, the Tan Hong Ming commercial has won 21 awards internationally for the last 12 months. The latest is at the 55th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival in France, which ended on Sunday (22-June-08).

The Men's Rules

We, Men always bombarded by Women's Rules and in most cases, we have to bow to them in protest. If you google enough, you'll see lots of lots of Women's Rules out there!! We, Men must have our own rules but how to make even a single one? Luckily for me, a female guardian angel sent me an email on Men's rules. These rules are all numbered "1" ON PURPOSE!! Yes, all the rules are No. 1, no compromise!

Melaka....My Unplanned Trip (Part 2)

It’s was already 3 p.m. when we reached Melaka and it took us about 1.5 hours just to do the Jonker Walk in my Part 1 posting. Then we decided to move on the other part of the city as quick as possible so that we don’t reached home too late!!! Hahaha...very rushing, huh?? Random pictures of another version of my "what you see is what you get".

Ah....the great A’Famosa. No matter how many times you come here, you’ll take picture probably at the same spot and said "here I come again". Well, this is one of the most photographed landmark in Melaka.

This is the remains of Santiago Bastion which was unearthed during the construction of Dataran Pahlawan. Too bad beneath it, rubbish were thrown by some irresponsible people.

The Becas of Stadthuys Square. Just behind the Tower Clock.

The Becas of Jalan Kota in front of the famous A’famosa.

This way up to St. Paul’s Hill..... it’s a pity that my in-law cannot go up.

I’m grateful that I still can climb on these steps up to the hill.

Well, the steps lead to this place, St. Paul Church. You know where I took this picture from...right?

The name “Christ Church Melaka”, 1753. It’s one of the most photographed landmarks. I managed to get “rid” on the people around this area (about 200++ minimum), like I was alone there. Great, right?

We saw this at the river quay. What an interesting structure.

This is the most famous ship in the city. The Portuguese Galleon (Replica or "Flor de la Mar"). Vital Statistic? Height – 34m, Length – 36m & Width – 8m.

Next to the ship you will find Maritime Museum and we found a friend inside.

The our one and only Hang Tuah...

Me : Hi...

Hang Tuah : (mute)

Me : Can take picture or not?

Hang Tuah : (mute)

Me : ...... (camera snapping). Thks

Hang Tuah : (mute)

Me : ...... (run!!!)

We wanted to go up there, but the queue was too long and we were running out of time.

We wanted to cruise the river, but it was fully booked and we have to wait for two hours to get the next cruise. No way lah..... next time may be.

It’s now 6:30 p.m. All of us felt very tired. Lots of places we skipped and foregone . My mother in-law legs were shivering (long walk you know). So, we walked slowly toward where we parked our car on the “legal” parking bay. You know what? We saw a piece of paper between the windscreen and the wiper. Tadaaa..... a summon of RM30 from the MBMB.

Wife : What is that?

Me : Summon (congratulation ticket) lah.....

Wife : Why got summon one?

Me : I don’t know..

Wife : Why you don’t know one...you never check meh?

Me : How do I know lah...rushing trip mah.

Wife :........

Wife : So how?

Me : What?

Wife : Pay or not?

Me : Offer RM30 payment until 21st June 2008 wor...

Wife : Then?

Me : Pay RM50 after that....

Wife : If not....

Me : Errr.....not mentioned. But they strike out the court action wor.

Wife : So how? Now cannot pay, all closed shop already.

Me : Can pay money order.... want to pay or not?

We are still thinking.........

Btw, we reached home around 11:oo p.m.

Lessons learnt from this trip.

  2. Stay at least for three days. Best time to go on Thursday, Friday & Saturday (For the crowd)

Melaka....My Unplanned Trip (Part 1)

When I reached home from work on Thursday night, my wife started a conversation and it goes something like this....

Wife : You work or not this Saturday?

Me : Why?

Wife : Go jalan-jalan lah.....

Me : Where?

Wife : Melaka lor.....

Me : Err....ok..set!! but when? <--- still feeling blurry & dizzy from work
Wife : Aiyoo...I just mentioned Saturday mah...can?
Me : oohh...ya..ya..ya....caaaannnnnnnnnn....
Daughter : uwasuti wahdidi gadido dadii.... <-- still a baby language!! It means, "can I follow also daddy....".
Me : yes my dear, why not? ...... (you make my day sweetie!!)

So, on Saturday 11 a.m., we started our journey to the Historical City of Melaka together with my in-laws (sister & mother). The sky was cloudy from my place but I thought it was a good day to travel. At first, we wanted to go to the zoo, to the crocodile farm, and then to here, there....blah, blah but upon reaching the zoo, we saw lots of cars, traffic was crawling and illegal parkings were everywhere!!! Cancelled plan!! Next stop, straight to the city!!

Oh my god, I said "here we are again...", the traffic jam, the jump-queuing, cars squeezing in and out and yes, illegal parkings again and so fort. After making three round trips in the city, I finally managed to get a legal parking bay. Ahem, I'm always a law abiding citizen. So, I made an assumption that, it was a public holiday and parking should be free of charge. Yes, right. I'll tell you later what happen. Btw, it has been 3 years since I visited Melaka and when I saw the city so different, at one time I thought I was in the wrong city!! More things to see and more people!!! Melaka for me is a photographer's heaven!!! There are so many things you can "shoot" here. The following pictorials should tell you many thousand words...... basically, as a very unprepared tourist, this is my version of "what you see is what you get". Let's start one of my highlights with this one .....

Our first stop, Jonker Street. If you are a Malaysian, don't tell me you do not know this place!! If you are staying in Melaka and you also don't know this street..... then I'll say "alamak" to poor you.

Yes, the main entrance of Jonker Street. Let's do the Jonker Walk!!

This is what happen when hungry people with the same taste as you and looking for food at the same time same place!!

Our decent meal of the day. Curry fish head (in a chicken rice shop?), Steam Chicken and fish balls....err balls of rice. Ahemm.

Busy street...... That's Jonker. Errr...not really. Actually, it's everywhere in the city!!

4-10, anyone? A simple term for RM10 for 4. I did not buy anyway. Hehehe...

This is was what actually? Is it something that you tie to your cellphone/potable device? You readers tell me lah. I know, I'm old already and I'm not "in"....but at least I have the right to know...right?

I wonder why these people never utilized this fan in a very hot afternoon!! How come this fan looks so difference from the one at my home?

Aaahh..the master said "cannot". Silly me!! Well, the master definitely waiting for a new owner. One of the best place to buy especially if you are an antics enthusiast.

This was the coffee shop where we had our best cendol in town. All of us agreed. My daughter even said..... "Avasi"... a kadazan-dusun dialect that means "Good". Yes, I felt good.

Haa.... we bought this for ourself. Why, because they put a family in their advertisement. So it's for family and it should be good. This thing is so sweet and hard until it stucks between your teeth. Some more no preservative you know.

Continue in Part 2.......

So tell what you think so far.....please don't be shy. Drop a few words and say "Hi" or something else.....

A new beginning and petrol hike!!

Today 5th June 2008 marked the beginning of my journey to blogging. Before joining the fray, I was blog-hopping to my favourite bloggers to read their stories, grumblings, jokes, sadness, etc. I was wondering someday that I should go blogging as well. Here I am.

Today also marked the beginning of higher petrol price!!! Ha!! Isn’t it the right time to blog about? A 40% increase from RM1.92/litre to RM2.70/litre. So what can I do about it ? Honestly, there’s a little I can do as I need to travel to work daily and weekend side seeing/window shopping (hehe..). Just imagine having to wake up early in the morning at 5:30am, do my morning routines, start travelling from my place in Kepong, where I’m staying now, to Pulau Indah, Klang. That’s about 62km trip. So, I travel about 124km minimum daily. In that faithful evening, I was rushing to fill my petrol just after hearing the announcement from the radio. Lucky for me and the others, the Petrol Kiosk did not close shop to take advantage of the petrol hike!! So, I managed to “save” some money. In the old days, I used to fill RM60 of petrol for 31.25 litres but starting from today onwards, I need to fork out around RM85, an increase of RM25. I spent about RM420 a month for my petrol and with the new price, I will spend RM595. There goes some of my “entertainment” fund. Sigh!!!

My faithful and (so far) reliable Korean made car Hyundai Accent 1.5GLS (I’m not a car dealer btw) was able to give an average mileage of 440km for a RM60 petrol and that’s about RM13.64 per 100KM. Great huh?! Especially for an automatic transmission car!! I have to thank the portable device I always used when I fill-in my petrol. But sadly, it is now about RM19.32 per 100KM. Right....Ahem (and taking a deep breath), I’m wondering when will be the next increment as according to the Government announcement, the new price RM2.70 is still at a 30-sen per litre discount from the market price. The Star’s paper quoted today that the price will be adjusted on monthly basis based on global oil price. Well, it could be UP.. UP.. UP.. UP and UP or Down.. Down.. Down.. Down.. and Down. Let’s us hope and pray for the later.
